The GAAC is advising many airfields around the UK and in many cases this involves sensitive situations and information. However, in some cases we can divulge our involvement, and in some cases the activity involves several airfields with a common interest.

Below we aim to show the three main activities at the present time.

Popham Airfield

A Letter of Objection was sent following preliminary discussions with the local Council. Phase 2 is the promotion of ‘Popham Airfield Matters’ to work for the protection of the airfield. Their first promotional event is planned to be the Microlight Trade Show and fly-in over the first May 2024 Bank Holiday weekend.

National Grid Pylons

The new pylons are being planning to bring power from Scotland to Tilbury. A preliminary meeting has been held with National Grid regarding East Anglia and is being followed up with further meetings planned for the five other regions the GAAC has been asked to represent.

Rates

GAAC is collaborating with a senior Rating Adviser who recently achieved a Rate Reduction of more than 50% for an airfield and is currently advising others.

The Rates Review Service is available through GAAC. Please contact planning [at] gaac.org.uk

Popham Airfield is under threat from developers, who are attracted by its excellent access to the A303.
